In November 2022, Koole, successfully acquired the contract to embark on this endeavour. The works commenced in January 2023 and was concluded in December 2023.
Amidst the challenges faced during the operation, including three severe storms that broke the OS 35 into two pieces and listed her over starboard, Koole showcased resilience. Despite alterations to the original removal plan, the team successfully removed over 33,000 metric tons of rebar from the vessel’s five holds and refloated both the stern and forward sections.
A crucial moment in this wreck removal was the loading of both sections onto Koole’s semi-submersible heavy lift transport vessel, the Fjord, which transported the sections of the OS 35 to Amsterdam for the final decommissioning.
