The car carrier vessel, formerly known as “FREMANTLE HIGHWAY” and now renamed Floor, suffered extensive damage from an onboard fire while sailing in the North Sea. The fire severely damaged the hull, accommodation, bridge, and car decks from deck 5 to the top deck. After the fire was under control, the vessel was towed to Eemshaven, where the first cargo was offloaded and a technical inspection revealed no damage below deck five, including the engine room and control systems.

Due to a global shortage of car carriers, a repair plan was drafted by a Chinese shipyard engineering team. The “FREMANTLE HIGHWAY” was towed to DAMEN Velrome dock in Rotterdam for repairs, utilizing proper recycling facilities, logistics, and crane capacity. KOOLE carried out the preparations, including removing hazardous materials, waste, and burned cargo.

The repair involved cutting away burned steel while preserving critical structures like the winch decks, elevator shaft, chimney structure, and ramps. The final cutting line allows for fitting new sections according to class rules and ILT regulations.
