Sweden, during a heavy storm a floating dry dock broke loose from its mooring.
The dry dock, 165 x 35 meters in size, drifted from the southern quay of Oresund Drydoocks premises in Landskrona Sweden towards the bay of Lundakra. Due to the high sea wateron that day, it passed over some very shallow waters and stranded approxomitely 1.6 nmi from its original position. The floating dock then came to stop in a protected nature reserve.
With the use of 200 dragline mats, 175 steel beams, Koole buit an artificial basis of appromitely 28,000 m2 around the dock.
At the same time, three excavators formed a channel with a length of 1.8 km. Once the basin had been filled with 60 million liters of water, the dock was refloated and repositioned towards the newly formed channel. Subsequently, the dock was transported through the temporary channel to open sea and returned home at Roresund Drydocks.
